Police officers assaulted, fans injured after brawl during Rabbitohs-Tigers NRL clash at Campbelltown

Two men have been charged, two others were taken to hospital, and two police officers injured after a violent brawl erupted between rival fans during the Rabbitohs’ win over the Wests Tigers in Campbelltown.

Two men have been arrested and two police officers injured after a brawl erupted between rival NRL fans during Sunday night’s match between the Wests Tigers and South Sydney Rabbitohs at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The clash, which saw the Rabbitohs defeat the Tigers 22–12, was marred by chaos in the stands just after 7.50pm, when a fight broke out between supporters.

Police were called to the scene and allege one officer was punched in the head, while another was punched in the face while trying to intervene.

Additional police units from nearby commands, including the Dog Unit and South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group, were called in for support.

Two men were injured during the incident. One was taken to Liverpool Hospital with suspected concussion, and another to Campbelltown Hospital with facial injuries.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with affray, two counts of assaulting police, and resisting arrest.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on June 12.

A second man, 28, was arrested for common assault and will be issued with a court attendance notice.

Four people were evicted from the stadium.

The injured officers were treated at the scene for cuts and bruising.
