Man charged after 70-year-old pedestrian dies in hospital following alleged Glenfield hit-and-run

Police have arrested a 25-year-old and seized a silver ute after a 70-year-old pedestrian, struck in an alleged hit-and-run in Sydney’s southwest, died in hospital.

A man has been charged following a fatal alleged hit-and-run in southwest Sydney.

Police arrested the 25-year-old at a home on Kokoda Pl, Glenfield, about 1pm on Tuesday, when they also seized a silver ute.

They had been investigating an incident that occured in the same suburb the previous afternoon, when officers arrived at the intersection of Canterbury Rd and Belmont Rd at Glenfield about 4.15pm to find a 70-year-old pedestrian with critical injuries.

Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before rushing him in a critical condition to Liverpool Hospital, where he later died.

The arrested man has been charged with negligent driving occasioning death, failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, and driving while disqualified.

He was refused bail to face Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.
