Passenger seriously injured after being pinned under overturned car in Blue Mountains crash

An 18-year-old man has been seriously injured after being thrown from a vehicle and trapped beneath it in a crash in Katoomba.

A teenager has been seriously injured after being thrown from a vehicle and pinned beneath it in a dramatic crash in the Blue Mountains on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to Orient St in Katoomba shortly before 9pm following reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a blue Ford Fiesta and a silver Hyundai IX35.

Police said the Hyundai rolled onto its roof and down an embankment, landing in shallow water.

An 18-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, was ejected from the vehicle and trapped underneath it.

Rescue crews, including Police Rescue and Fire and Rescue NSW, worked for about an hour to free the man.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 22-year-old woman, was uninjured and taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory testing.

A 16-year-old boy who was also in the Hyundai escaped injury.

The 18-year-old man, who was driving the Ford Fiesta and his four passengers — three females aged 19, 18 and 16, and a 16-year-old boy — were also uninjured.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
