More than two-thirds of rooms at a longstanding Parramatta hotel are set to be refurbished in time for the opening of major regional landmarks, including the Powerhouse Museum and Western Sydney Airport.
A spruce-up to most of the Parkroyal’s 286 rooms and suites in the original tower is slated to be unveiled by April, with meeting spaces set for a facelift to reinforce its role as the “premier accommodation” choice for business and leisure travellers in western Sydney.
Parkroyal manager Hans Joachim said the hotel was well-placed to support the anticipated surge in domestic and international tourism across Greater Sydney when the airport and museum opened in 2026.
“This refurbishment really showcases our commitment to delivering a modern, elevated experience that not only meets the standards of today’s traveller but also celebrates Parramatta’s dynamic and rapidly changing landscape,” Mr Joachim said.
IDC Designs’ John Dunn has taken care of the aesthetics inspired by Parramatta’s landscape, including squiggly gum carpets, native flora wall motifs and white marble furniture accents reminiscent of the Sydney Basin.
Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s cluster general manager Jeroen Meijer welcomed the revitalisation.
“As Parramatta continues to grow as a destination, we look forward to welcoming guests into a space that is both a tribute to the area’s rich heritage and a symbol of its exciting future,” he said.
“With this refurbishment comes a desire to stay ahead in a competitive market as the area continues to evolve into a major hub.”
While the Parkroyal’s makeover is on track to be ready by April, not all hotel projects in Parramatta can avoid delays.
Progress on Parramatta’s first five-star hotel – the InterContinental – suffered a major blow with construction coming to a halt this month over concerns about the metro tunnels.
Work stopped following Sydney Metro’s claim that the developer behind the InterContinental – Holdmark Property Group – is yet to achieve consent to build over a rail corridor.
