NSW bushfires: Bogee residents told to leave

Two boys have been arrested after fire broke out in a northwest Sydney suburb, while residents in a small town near the Blue Mountains have been told to evacuate now as a bushfire rages.

Two boys have been arrested after a bushfire broke out in Sydney’s northwest, forcing homes to be evacuated.

At 3.07pm, the NSW Rural Fire Service issued a warning to residents in Sydney’s northwest as a bushfire burns on Free Settlers Dr in Bella Vista.

Police have now confirmed two boys aged 12 and 13 have been arrested in the vicinity of the initial blaze at Balmoral Road Reserve in Kellyville.

“At about 1.45pm today emergency services attended Balmoral Rd in Kellyville following reports of a grass fire,” a NSW Police spokesman said.

“Officers located two boys, aged 12 and 13, and they were arrested and taken to Castle Hill police station where enquiries are continuing.”

The fire is currently at advice level, with two homes evacuated and no reports of any injuries.

“Firefighters from the RFS and FRNSW are working to contain a bush fire burning in the vicinity of Free Settlers Dr, Bella Vista,” the RFS stated.

“There is no immediate threat to property, but those in the vicinity should monitor conditions and stay up to date with the latest information.”

Residents in a small town in the Lithgow area have been told to evacuate now as a bushfire rages, with fears conditions could worsen swiftly.

The Home Hills Rd fire in Bogee, in the Lithgow local government area, has been escalated to an emergency warning with residents ordered to leave now.

The fire is burning in a north easterly direction.

“If you are in the area of Home Hills Rd between Capertree River and Marsden Rd, you are in danger,” a NSW Rural Fire Service post stated at 2.22pm.

“Leave now in a northerly direction along Home Hills Rd if the path is clear towards Rylstone.

“Do not delay. Act now. Conditions may get worse quickly.”

A fire at Milsons Gully west of Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter is now at watch and act level, with residents ordered to leave immediately if they are not prepared for fire.

“A bushfire is burning within the Goulburn River National Park, 55km west of Muswellbrook,” the RFS stated.

“Those in Flaggs Rd between the Golden Hwy and Death Adder Trail, as well as Worondi Creek Rd, should leave now if not prepared, in an easterly direction along the Golden Hwy and then south towards Sandy Hollow.”

The Bucketts Way fire at Stroud on the Mid North Coast is being controlled, with firefighters and waterbombing aircraft working to douse the fire.

“The fire is burning in the vicinity of St Clairs Rd, between The Bucketts Way and Mill Creek Rd, 2.5km northwest of Stroud,” the RFS stated.

“The alert level for this fire has been downgraded to advice as fire crews gain the upper hand.”

Residents are urged to continue monitoring conditions at Bulahdelah, Redhead, and Koolewong as bushfires that wiped out multiple homes over the weekend continue to burn.
