Veteran broadcaster Ray Hadley has hinted he may play a role in the legal proceedings against his former 2GB colleague Alan Jones, after a ninth alleged victim came forward.
Speaking on 2GB on Tuesday, Hadley stated he would be “playing no public role in this matter” but alluded to “some sort of other role” as the case progresses.
“Those complaints have now led to the 24 charges against Mr Jones; the next time he is in court is on December 18 and the matter will be dealt with then and appropriately,” Hadley said.
“By that time I will have finished on air, and I’ll be playing no public role in this matter; I may play some sort of other role, but I won’t be playing a public role in this matter into the future because I retire on December 13, he goes to court on December 18.”
The 83-year-old, already charged with 24 offences involving eight alleged victims, now faces two additional counts of assault following investigations by the child abuse squad.
The allegations span nearly two decades, from 2001 to 2019.
The latest developments come as photos of Jones’ lavish residence at Macquarie St surface showcasing the apartment’s enclosed balcony.
The complex includes a 20m lap pool and sweeping views of Sydney’s skyline.
Since Jones’ arrest and subsequent charges on Monday, activity at his home has remained silent, a stark contrast to the vibrant pack of locals and tourists frequenting outside his luxury Circular Quay apartment.
There was little to no movement for most of the day, although his lawyer Bryan Wrench was in a rush as he was seen arriving at the toaster about 3pm on Tuesday.
Jones, once a commanding voice on Sydney airwaves and a confidant of prime ministers and premiers, was arrested on Monday morning at his Circular Quay home.
Wearing a green tracksuit and using a walking stick, he was taken to Day Street Police Station, where he remained tight-lipped amid a flurry of media attention.
Among the accusers is a prominent Olympic athlete, one of nine alleged victims police say were indecently assaulted or sexually touched by Jones over nearly two decades.
His lawyer has firmly denied the allegations, stating Jones will fight the charges in court.
Granted conditional bail, Jones is scheduled to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on December 18.
Police investigation under Strike Force Bonnefin remains ongoing.
