Man charged after alleged high-speed North Ryde collision that killed passenger and seriously injured two others

A 45-year-old driver has been charged over a deadly crash on Lane Cove Rd that left one passenger dead and two others seriously injured, with police alleging he was speeding more than 45km/h over the limit before the impact.

A driver has been charged after a fatal crash in North Ryde earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to a crash between a Mitsubishi and a truck in the east bound lanes of Lane Cove Rd, North Ryde about 1am on Monday.

A passenger in the car, a 38-year-old man, died before emergency services arrived. The driver, a 45-year-old man, and another passenger, a 37-year-old woman were trapped in the sedan and had to be released by Fire and Rescue NSW.

The pair were treated at the scene before being rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital, both in a serious but stable condition.

The 61-year-old truck driver was uninjured but he was taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established with the Crash Investigation Unit investigating.

Police from the Ryde Police Area Command and Tuggerah Lakes Police District arrested the Mitsubishi driver in Toukley, Central Coast on Thursday following inquiries.

He was charged with aggravated dangerous driving causing death, speeding more than 45km/h over the limit, aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, two counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of negligent driving causing death.

He was also charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, one count of negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm, driving too closely behind a vehicle and not giving particulars to police.

The driver’s licence was suspended and he was refused bail to appear before a bail division court on Friday.
