A teen motorcyclist accused of a nasty hit and run with a cop leapt from the bike before impact, police allege.
Police have now charged Max Dixon, 19, who allegedly fled the scene before being arrested a short time later.
A NSW police statement said officers had spoken with Dixon on King St, Coffs Harbour, about 4am on Friday June 13.
“When officers asked the rider to stop the motorbike, he allegedly rode towards two police officers.
“The rider jumped from the motorbike which continued moving forward, striking a police officer’s leg,” the statement said.
The 24-year old constable was treated by NSW Ambulance before being treated at Coffs Harbour Health Campus for a fracture to his leg.
A crime scene was established by officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit and Dixon was charged with six offences.
Dixon appeared before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Friday, charged with dangerous and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving vehicle without ever having had a licence, use unregistered Class A vehicle on road, use unsafe vehicle on road and not wearing a motorbike helmet. He has not entered any pleas.
He was formally refused bail and will appear in court again on June 17.
