Businessman, author and TV producer John Ibrahim was asked to present an award at this year’s TV Week Logie Awards alongside the actor who portrayed him in the hit show about his life.
Ibrahim and Lincoln Younes, who plays the nightclub boss in The Last King Of The Cross on streaming service Paramount+, were invited to present an award at the Star Casino for Australian TV’s night of nights on July 30.
Ibrahim’s life story has long captivated the public’s attention, from Firass Dirani’s portrayal in Underbelly: The Golden Mile through to Ibrahim’s best-selling memoir Last King of the Cross.
So it is little surprise Younes’ depiction of Ibrahim in The Last King Of The Cross has been a raging success in both Australia and overseas, leading to the recent commissioning of a second season of the show.
But it seems that despite the hopes both Ibrahim and the man who plays him would stand side-by-side at the Logies, it will not eventuate.
“In the early stages of Logies preparation, the ITV team reach out to a number of people who have been involved in key shows in the Australian industry,” a Logies spokeswoman said.
“This is a wide net to canvas availability ahead of months of more detailed planning.
“ITV inquired as to John’s availability due to his involvement in The Last King Of The Cross, but moved on from the idea.”
Ibrahim could not be reached for a comment when contacted by The Daily Telegraph.
