Today News Corp, via the Sunday Telegraph, is launching a national campaign to protect our most valuable asset – our children.
I’ve spent most of my broadcasting life as a Bravehearts ambassador, campaigning for tougher penalties for convicted pedophiles and wanting greater protection for our children.
Today, I’m offering my full support to News Corp to make sure we get a national working with children’s check.
Currently, state governments conduct the checks and, as we all know, these evil pedophiles work the system so their offending can continue. In many cases, they move from state to state to continue their evil ways.
A national response is required from the federal government to ensure our children are kept safe.
The most prominent cases in recent times involve one childcare worker in Queensland pleading guilty to the most horrific sexual attacks on very young children in child care centres.
Then we have two more Victorian men facing the same sort of charges perpetrated by Ashley Paul Griffith in Queensland.
The working with children check has been abused by men by going to NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, after being denied the working with children check by the courts. NCAT and other tribunals were an invention of well-intentioned do-gooders back in the 1970s.
We have the Local Court, District Court, County Court, Federal Court, Supreme Court and High Court but someone thought that wasn’t enough.
Based on the decisions I’ve seen over 35 years by various administrative review tribunal members, especially when it comes to dealing with criminals including pedophiles, I think we need to leave it to the other judicial officers.

Based on the decisions I’ve seen over 35 years by various Administrative Review Tribunal members, especially when it comes to dealing with criminals including pedophiles, I think we need to save some money and simply leave it to the other judicial officers. The various appeals tribunals, state and federal have outlived their usefulness.
