Police have arrested a 65-year-old man in relation to an alleged historical sexual assault on the Central Coast nearly 30 years ago as a result of a DNA breakthrough. He has now fronted court.
Police have arrested a 65-year-old man in relation to an alleged historical sexual assault on the Central Coast nearly 30 years ago as a result of a DNA breakthrough.
On March 26, 1996, a nine-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted on the Central Coast by a man not known to him.
“Detectives were notified and commenced an investigation; however, despite extensive inquiries, were unable to make an arrest at the time of the incident.”
As a result of further inquiries and advances in forensic DNA technology, detectives from the Tuggerah Lakes Criminal Investigation team arrested a 65-year-old man, Grant Malcolm Nicholls, at Bathurst Police Station on Wednesday.
Nicholls was subsequently charged with sexual intercourse with person under the age of 10 years, and attempt to have sexual intercourse with person under 10 years.
Nicholls did not apply for bail and will next appear in Wyong Court on January 27, 2026 where a brief will be served.
