Body found in river in search for 5yo Essa Dennaoui at Chipping Norton

Police have confirmed they believe a body found in water near Chipping Norton is missing five-year-old Essa Dennaoui.

Police have confirmed that a body has been found in water while searching for missing five-year-old Essa Dennaoui.

Just before 8pm on Thursday evening, police had appealed for public assistance to locate Essa, who was last seen in Epsom St, Chipping Norton, about 6.35pm.

“Police and family hold serious concerns for Essa’s whereabouts as he lives with autism and is non-verbal,” the statement said.

Police divers were called in to search waterways as Epsom St runs alongside the Georges River.

Police also sent out a text alert within the local area, and locals joined family and police in searching for the young boy.

Late on Thursday night, police confirmed a body had been found in the Georges River.

“While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing boy,” they said in a second statement.

“Police are not treating the matter as suspicious at this stage.

“A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.”

One local who had been helping to look for Essa posted on Facebook that searchers were devastated.
