A blaze broke out at a high school in Sydney’s southwest overnight just hours after school broke up for the year.
Around 11pm on Wednesday night, Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service NSW received reports of a fire at Ambarvale High School in the Campbelltown area.
Firefighters and police attended the Rosemeadow school with the fire damaging tables under an outdoor pergola area.
A NSW Department of Education spokeswoman confirmed the fire had been reported to police with an investigation underway.
The spokeswoman also advised there hadn’t been any issues with break-ins or fires at the school previously.
Local residents reported the fire looked like it broke out in the Year 12 outdoor gazebo area, with firefighters breaking the school’s locks to battle the flames before it could spread to any of the school buildings.
Campbelltown police are investigating the blaze and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
