A beloved bunny rabbit has been reunited with its owners by firefighters after a blaze engulfed the family home on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire broke out in the flooring of the Lethbridge Park home but quickly spread to the roof, allowing enough time for the two adult and five child occupants to get themselves to safety but forcing them to leave their pets behind.
Firefighters from eight Western Sydney brigades, including Ropes Crossing, Mt Druitt, St Marys, Cranebrook, Penrith and Baulkham Hills, swiftly arrived on scene to battle the blaze.
Donning breathing apparatus, a search and rescue crew entered the home while it was well alight to save the family’s animals including Melly the rabbit, who was found hiding in a bedroom in a pile of laundry.
Bundled up in its rescuer’s arms, the bunny was evacuated unharmed from the burning building.
Despite the fire damaging 75 per cent of their home, Melly’s family were “ecstatic” to have the smallest member brought back safe said Fire and Rescue NSW.
The cause of the blaze is still being determined.
