Convicted pedophile and inmate David McCorriston has admitted to the abuse of a 13-year-old boy more than three decades ago in Lake Macquarie.

Convicted pedophile and inmate David McCorriston has admitted to the abuse of a 13-year-old boy – where he showered him with gifts of lollies, ice-cream and even the promise of a motorbike – more than three decades ago in Lake Macquarie.

The 60-year-old Belmont man groomed the young boy after they met through a friend in late 1989, according to court documents.

Police facts detailed that McCorriston – then in his 20s – took the victim to the local baths for a swim where he would sexually abuse the young boy before offering to buy him an ice-cream at the local store and saying “nobody needs to know”.

Court documents also revealed that when the boy ran into McCorriston in 1990, he had offered to take him to shops in Maitland and give him anything he wanted.

McCorriston, who also had a video store, invited him to watch movies and gave him lollies before he again sexually assaulted him and told him not to tell anyone otherwise he would get into trouble.

On one occasion police facts state McCorriston lured the young boy by saying he would give him a motorbike but instead lied for his own sexual gratification.

Court documents said the victim did not tell anyone what had happened until more than 20 years later in 2021.

In July 2024 police attended Junee correctional centre and spoke to McCorriston before he was charged two months later for the offences.

In Newcastle Local Court this week, the 60-year-old appeared via video link as he pleaded guilty to 13 charges.

Those included charges of sexual assault of a person aged between 10 and 16, sexual assault – incite indecent act of person under 16 and sexual assault and commit an act of indecency.

He will appear in court next month for a sentence date to be set.

McCorriston is currently serving a sentence for similar historical child abuse charges against three young victims in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s and is not expected to be released until 2028.

In 2022 he was convicted and jailed for 11 years and six months, with a non-parole period of six years and 11 months.
