Captain Bigglesworth has won the main prize at the Dachstober Longdog Festival again

For the third year running, Captain Bigglesworth was the outstanding performer at the Dachstober Longdog Festival in the Hunter Valley as sausage dogs from all over the state converged on Pokolbin for the annual event.

Sausage dogs from across NSW had a ruff time going up against a two-time champion at the Dachshtober Longdog Festival in the Hunter Valley.

The prestigious competition for our long-bodied, short legged canine friends was held for its third year in Pokolbin, and once again Captain Bigglesworth got the top prize in his “Most Creative Weiner” category.

The four-year-old dachshund was a crowd favourite after he cruised along in his custom-built Spitfire race car at Tocal Homestead last week – in an outfit inspired by the fictional World War 1 character Biggles.

“I had done the plane last year, when I came across the car I thought it would be really fun,” Captain Bigglesworth’s owner Ms Natalie Hulford said.

Dachshtober supports IVDD awareness, a spinal condition affecting many dachshunds.

The Northern Beaches may be known for its surf and sand, but days like this reveal a different kind of charm – a celebration of simple joys, community spirit and a dash of friendly competition.

Captain Bigglesworth was the star of the show, not just for his costume, but also for his boundless energy on the track. He claimed victory in two races and second in another.

“It was wonderful to see that there were so many families at the event who don’t even have dogs, or don’t have foster dogs,” Ms Hulford said.

“I just love it, because it’s fun. It’s just fun.”
