Anthony Albanese picks up newspaper ahead of TV interviews

A dishevelled Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been spotted in his sleepwear picking up the morning paper- hours before he was questioned about Tanya’s Plibersek’s Peter Dutton sledge.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has emerged from his Marrickville home this morning to scoop up a NewsCorp Australia newspaper from his front porch.

The new PM donned a playful pair of striped blue Peter Alexander pyjamas with rabbit illustrations – from the luxury sleepwear brand’s 2018 Easter campaign – to pick up a copy of The Australian delivered to his doorstep on Thursday morning.

Mr Albanese completed his early morning look with a blue Newtown Jets jersey with the collar popped and a pair of cosy Ugg boots.

After retreating into the house, Albo reappeared some time later wearing a tidier look with a dark grey plaid suit featuring a bright white blouse and a blue striped tie.

In his first television interview since being sworn in as Prime Minister this morning, Mr Albanese declined to comment on Tanya Plibersek’s demeaning remarks about Peter Dutton.

Speaking on Sunrise on Thursday morning, Mr Albanese declined to comment about the MP’s swipe at the former Defence Minister where she compared Mr Dutton’s face to Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort.

The senior federal Labor MP took a swipe at the prospective federal Liberal leader by comparing his face to Harry Potter villain Voldemort on Brisbane radio 4BC yesterday.

She has since apologised for the comments, and Mr Albanese said it was time to move on to implement “dead serious” political change.

“I am dead serious about it. I am dead serious about it. But, you know, people when they make a mistake, they should apologise and we move on,” he said on Sunrise.

“That‘s one of the ways that we can change the way that politics operates and Tanya has done the appropriate thing here.”

Later speaking on Today, the Prime Minister opened up about his emotions since election victory last Saturday, sharing some thoughts about his late mother.

“Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of my mum’s death. I travelled out to the cemetery to see her and have a chat,” Mr Albanese said.

“It was a big deal. It was a private moment. I went by myself.

“I hope that it gives people out there, whether they be single mums or people going through difficulties in life and their children … I hope that my journey does his people a bit of an uplift.”

Meanwhile, outgoing Prime Minister Scott Morrison jumped on 2GB radio this morning for the first time since his election loss.

While the former PM said he was “disappointed by the result” he was “looking forward to being a dad again” and doing the school run.

“I’ve never been one to be … pessimistic in defeat,” he told 2GB’s Ben Fordham.

“I look forward to giving that new leadership every, every support … and going back to being a quiet Australian in the Shire.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been able to spend as much time as I would like with the family.”

Mr Morrison said he had “no plans” on leaving his role as MP anytime soon and joked about picking up some extra cash through Uber.
