Alleged thief arrested after 70yo’s handbag stolen
A man has been arrested after he allegedly attacked an elderly woman and stole her handbag.

A MAN has been arreted after he allegedly attacked an elerly woman and stole her handbag on the weekend.
About 7.50pm on Friday night, a 70-year-old woman got off a bus on Dalwood Cres in Malak when she was approached by an unknown man.
It’s alleged the pair engaged in a brief struggle, before the man fled the scene on foot towards Patterson Street, with the woman’s handbag.
The woman was not injured in the scuffle.
Following investigations, the 25-year-old man was arrested in Casuarina on Wednesday morning.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier thanked members of the public and Casuarina Square security for their assistance in tracking down the man.
“The cowardly actions of this man attacking a 70-year-old victim who was heading home is disgusting,” he said.
“Police will continue to do everything in their power to bring these types of criminal acts to justice.”
The man is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery.
Man found after becoming lost in bushland
A MAN who got lost in the Dundee Forest has been found more than a day after going missing.
The interstate visitor was reported lost in bushland southwest of Darwin on Friday morning, after he hadn’t been seen since Thursday morning.
He had been travelling on a quad bike and his companions reported him missing after failing to find him themselves.
An air and land search began around lunchtime Friday and he was located during an air search during the afternoon.
The man is safe and well and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for medical observation.
Jayden Lockyer and Karl Kopp hand themselves in over alleged Alice Springs assaults
TWO men have been charged following three alleged assaults in Alice Springs on the weekend.
After NT Police called for public assistance in searching for Jayden Lockyer, 22, and Karl Kopp, 24, the pair handed themselves in on Tuesday.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch have since charged Lockyer with unlawfully causing serious harm and reckless endangerment.
Kopp has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.
The alleged assault left two men with non-life threatening injuries in Alice Springs on Sunday night.
At 1.40pm on Sunday, police received a report of an assault inside a licensed premises on Todd St, at the same time as two separate assaults outside the same venue.
Both Lockyer and Kopp were bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court on July 22, 2022.
Triple-0 operator helps mum through surprise delivery
A TRIPLE-0 operator talked a Top End woman through the birth of a child at home at 2am Saturday morning.
St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the organisation’s emergency dispatcher ‘Billy’ helped the Coconut Grove woman through the process until paramedics arrived.
“(The ambos) took the family to the hospital and thankfully, everything was fantastic and everyone's doing well,” Mr Garraway said.
“(It was a) great start to our weekend anyway for a change.”
Mr Garraway could not confirm if the baby was a boy or a girl.
Meanwhile in Alice Springs, a battery exploded in a man’s face while staying in a caravan park.
“He received a number of eye and facial injuries, not too serious is my understanding but did require to be taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment,” Mr Garraway said.
“But a lot of people in caravan parks at the moment with those types of batteries and gas stoves and just be careful, they sometimes just don’t work as we would hope.”
