More than $10k has been raised to aid the funeral expenses of a young woman remembered for being the sunshine on a cloudy day, a dedicated worker and a motorsports enthusiast.
Mika Friebel was found dead on Tuesday morning.
She had been reported as missing after not being seen or heard from since her last shift at the Hibiscus Tavern on Sunday afternoon.
Her car was left at the pub and her non-appearance at work sparked alarm across the community, with dozens of posts made by concerned friends across local Facebook groups appealing for information.
Ms Friebel was a lover of all things motorsports having moved to Darwin to pursue her passion.
She became part of the Darwin Motorcycle Club and raced in the Finke Desert Race in 2023, a gruelling event that is a true test for any rider.
Kaitlynn Maynes created a GoFundMe to assist Ms Friebel’s family in terms of funeral and travel costs, to ensure she receives “the beautiful send-off that she deserves”.
“Beautiful Mika, the sunshine on a cloudy day,” Ms Maynes wrote on the campaign page.
“The bright star who lit up the night sky. For those who had the pleasure of meeting Mika, you’d know just how special she was to so many people.
“A daughter, a dedicated worker, lover and a future full of ambition and goals to be on her way to become a paramedic.
“We are thinking of all family and friends in this trying and devastating time.”
The page raised $11,625 before it was closed on Friday.
Ms Friebel’s death drew an outpouring of tributes and grief from across the Northern Territory community and beyond, with many sharing their memories of her.
Motorcycling Northern Territory said their thoughts were with Ms Friebel’s family and friends.
