MEMBER for Karama Ngaree Ah Kit says “hundreds upon hundreds” of visitors have arrived in her electorate since last year, which has led to a spike in problems with crime in Karama.

The MLA addressed growing concerns about crime in Karama during a radio interview on Mix 104.9 today.

“We have been inundated with hundreds upon hundreds of visitors,” she said.

“We have a large increase with our rough sleepers.

“We hear a lot of Larrakia National night and day patrols are engaging with a lot of countrymen coming in from remote Aboriginal communities, which is absolutely fine.

“As the local member, I will welcome anyone and everybody to the electorate; I just ask everyone to please be respectful and mindful.

“If you’re not going to add value to our little community, then please don’t take any away.

“We’ve just had an influx of a lot more people making really bad decisions with their behaviour impacting on others.”

“The majority of people who are here visiting are here for the right reasons … it’s just a small cohort of them who often get intoxicated and run amok.”

Ms Ah Kit said she was also extremely concerned about a spike in chroming in Karama.
