A Tiwi Bomber celebrating their 50th men’s premier league game for the side is now facing court following an alleged serious match day incident.
Tiwi skipper Brendan Kantilla appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday facing charges of aggravated assault for an incident that took place on Saturday.
The incident took place in the evening following a 2.30pm match he took part in at TIO Stadium, though did not happen at or around the ground.
NT Police arrested the 23-year-old on the Tiwi Islands on Monday and has been remanded to appear in court.
The Tiwi Bombers Football Club said the player had been indefinitely suspended in a Facebook statement late on Thursday night.
“The alleged actions of the player in question are completely unacceptable and do not align with the values or ethos of our club,” the statement read.
“The Tiwi Bombers Football Club is fully committed to removing family violence from our sport and our community.
“We remain dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive environment both on and off the field.”
