Southern Districts could be without two of their standout performers, including a Nichols medal contender, after the latest set of NTFL bans were handed down.

Matt Shannon has been one of the best players of the 2024-25 NTFL season with his work rate in the middle and ability to kick a goal.

However, he fell on the wrong side of the match review panel when he was found to have struck another person, namely St Mary’s Jack Landt.

The alleged incident took place in the third quarter of the Round 18 match at Norbuilt Oval and was rated as intentional conduct with medium impact and high contact.

Shannon was given a three match ban, down to two with an early guilty plea, which could see him miss out on finals entirely.

Districts finished top of the table, meaning they have just three matches remaining in their season, down to two if they win their major semi-final.

Meanwhile, defender Brodie Lake could also be a tribunal casualty after he was found to have made forceful front-on contact against Saints’ Kobe Hodges.

The second quarter incident was found to be careless with medium impact and high contact resulting in a base sanction of two matches.

Southern Districts indicated it would take both cases to the tribunal.

Meanwhile, Saints Nathaniel Paredes made an early guilty plea to striking Districts’ Jack Sexton in the first quarter of the match the Crocs won 10.12 (72) to 6.6 (42).

His actions were found to be careless with low impact and high contact and he took a reprimand for the early plea.

Wanderers Dray Thompson took a reprimand after he was found to have engaged in rough conduct against PINT’s Bryce Manzie.

And Darwin Buffaloes’ Hayden Brown accepted a reprimand for an early plea after being found guilty of a low level striking offence against an umpire in his side’s match against Waratah.
