NT Police charge male driver after crash near Manton Dam

A driver who allegedly returned a positive breath test after a serious crash has been charged while his passengers receive lifesaving treatment.

The man behind the wheel of a single vehicle crash has been charged after he allegedly returned a positive breath test.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin told this masthead on Thursday morning that the crash had closed sections of the Stuart Highway near the Manton Dam Recreation Area just south of Acacia Hills at about 9.50am Wednesday.

Sergeant Rankin said a woman was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries, and the car’s remaining two occupants – the male driver and a woman – were trapped inside.

He said St John NT and fire services attended the scene near Byers Rd.

Sergeant Rankin said the critically injured woman was take to Royal Darwin Hospital with the help of Care Flight.

He said the driver and other passenger were also taken to hospital, but in a stable condition.

Sergeant Rankin said traffic was stopped in both directions when a crime scene was established but the road had since been reopened.
