Mines and Energy Minister Gerard Maley says Tamboran’s latest drilling campaign is a watershed moment for investment and development in the Beetaloo sub-basin.

Tamboran recently launched what it says is the biggest well stimulation campaign at its Shenandoah South Pilot Project.

“Gas produced from the Shenandoah South Project is set to flow into the Territory gas market from next year, fuelling our economic growth,” Mr Maley said.

The Mines Minister visited the Shenandoah South Pilot Project in the Beetaloo sub-basin with Minister for Essential Services and Member for Barkly Steve Edgington and Tamboran Resources CEO Joel Riddle.

Mr Maley said they wanted to witness first-hand “a new chapter in the development of this world-class energy resource”.

“Tamboran’s fracture stimulation campaign on the Shenandoah South 2H and 3H wells is the largest ever undertaken in the Beetaloo sub-basin,” Mr Maley said.

“This stimulation campaign is being conducted in accordance with the Territory’s world-leading petroleum regulatory regime, underpinned by rigorous environmental approvals.”

The Shenandoah South Pilot Project, is expected to produce 40 million cubic feet of natural gas a day with production expected to start mid-2026.

An additional four-well campaign is planned for 2025 to complete the project’s drilling phase.

Minister for Essential Services, Steve Edgington said he looked forward to Tamboran’s continued progress in delivering the energy Territorians need.

“The resources sector is integral to delivering energy security, fuelling growth, and driving prosperity — not just for today, but for decades to come,” he said.

“We look forward to Tamboran’s continued progress in delivering the energy Territorians need.

“A thriving energy sector is critical to rebuilding the economy and delivering the prosperous future that Territorians deserve, one in which the NT is the best place to live, work, and do business.”
