Police have linked a car crash in the Red Centre capital – where emergency services found the driver with stab wounds – with an earlier home invasion in the town
Police said the 46-year-old man had first crashed into a black Toyota hatchback at the intersection of Telegraph Tce and Stott Tce about 1.10am on Friday.
Moments later, he crashed the ute into a light pole at the Hartley St and Stott Tce intersection before hitting a tree and coming to a stop.
When emergency services responded to the scene, they found the man had allegedly been stabbed in the back and chest “prior to the crash,” police said.
He was sent to Alice Springs hospital in serious but stable condition.
Police have linked the crash to an alleged robbery which occurred hours earlier on Thursday evening.
Police said that about 5.25pm three men and a woman entered a Smith St residence and threatened a 51-year-old man.
They allegedly stole his blue HiLux and a number of other items.
Police told this masthead they believe the four people involved in the alleged Smith St home invasion are believed to have been involved in the later CBD crash – and are persons of interest in the stabbing investigation.
All the parties involved are believed to be known to each other, police said.
The alleged robbery, stabbing, and crash all remain under investigation.
