“Operation Exstrom did help police identify ways in which small infrastructure changes could help reduce harmful behaviour, changes like restricting power to outside outlets and increasing lighting in some areas,” Superintendent Sean Parnell said.

“If residents are observing unlawful behaviour occurring in certain laneways we urge them to contact police on 131 444 or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

It comes as Darwin City Council is to decide on the closure of four lanes in the area with hopes of reducing access into vulnerable neighbourhoods.

Supt Parnell said while certain types of infrastructure had proven to impact on crime in various communities, ultimately the make-up and review of infrastructure rested with council.
