HOSPITALITY businesses are enjoying serving burgers and beers to patrons enjoying some pub grub today — Good Friday — after successful lobbying from Hospitality NT.

Some venues had pre-existing trade but a majority of pubs, clubs, restaurants, wayside inns and roadhouses could not previously trade on Good Friday.

This year for the first time, many venues are opening from 11am to 9pm with restaurants, pubs and clubs needing to have food available.

Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said it was poised to be a cracking Good Friday for sports fans and pub goers, with two AFL and two NRL games across the afternoon.

“This is a common sense outcome and we thank the Chief Minister and Minister Fyles for fast-tracking our request,” he said.

“This means footy fans can come to our sports bars and enjoy a drink or two whilst watching the game with their mates.

“We will continue to work towards trading condition equity and certainty on this important trading weekend for our recovery.”

There will be no takeaway alcohol available on Good Friday.
