DARWIN fishing icon and Sunday Territorian columnist Hiroaki Nakamura has been stung by a stingray in an elusive quest for the Million Dollar Barra.
Hiro, as he is known around town, said he was out fishing under the full moon on Monday night at Mindil Beach and was stung when he waded into the water.
“There was a 7.3 metre tide, and it was one of the last chances to catch the Million Dollar barra,” he said.
“I don’t normally go fishing during the full moon.
“I waded into the water and in the reflection I couldn’t see any sea creatures, then all of I sudden I got attacked.”
Despite a deep cut to his foot, Hiro rode his scooter to Royal Darwin Hospital, where he was treated in the emergency department.
“Every two seconds there was a strong, but strange pain,” he said after being discharged.
“They treated me for four hours.”
Hiro vowed to be back fishing as soon as possible.
“There’s only a few days left (to catch the Million Dollar Barra),” he said.
