Alice Springs police arrest alleged drunk driver at Maccas

An alleged drunk driver almost crashed at a Maccas drive-through, right in front of hungry police.

A SNEAKY Maccas run by an alleged drunk driver has ended with a ticket to court after nearly crashing into a car at an Alice Springs drive-through.

NT Police said a 36-year-old man was pulled over and breath tested at the Alice Springs McDonalds drive thru line after he nearly rear-ended another car.

Southern Traffic Operations Unit officers were on their meal break and waiting in line at the popular take away joint, when they observed a vehicle almost rear-end another car in front.

Cstbl Dagis approached the driver, who appeared intoxicated, and advised him to collect his order before parking clear of the drive thru line.

Police will allege the driver was breath tested returning a positive result before being arrested and later returning a Breath Analysis reading of 0.114 breath alcohol concentration, more than twice the legal limit.

The driver was issued with a Notice to appear for one count of drive medium range blood alcohol and driving unregistered.

Officers finally got to have their meal, albeit a bit cold and congealed after the wait.
