Alice Springs has landed a much-needed boost with Airnorth to start direct flights from Cairns to the desert town.

Flights go on sale Monday and the first flight is April 14.

The service will operate three times a week using Airnorth’s modern Embraer E190 jet fleet, which carries 100 passengers and could not come at a better time for the tourism sector.

Promotional one way sales fares starting from $299 come with the good news for Alice Springs residents, businesses and tourism operators.

Airnorth CEO Daniel Bowden said the airline was thrilled to expand its network with the

addition of the Cairns to Alice Springs service.

“This route connects key regions of Australia, creating opportunities for tourism and businesses,” he said.

Cairns Airport is one of Australia’s leading regional airports, providing both international and domestic flights while being the gateway to North Queensland.

It comes hot on the heels of the news an additional 60,000 seats a year would flow into Darwin with the resumption of AirAsia flights in March.

Northern Territory tourism sector and expands itinerary options that connect Central Australia and Far North Queensland,” she said.

“With Perth’s growing profile as an international gateway into Australia from UK, Europe and

South Africa, the route could support development of new inbound Australian itineraries that

include Perth, Central Australia and Far North Queensland.

“Similarly, the route will make it easier for Japanese visitors to disperse from Cairns to Alice

Springs.”
