5.7 mW earthquake in Tanimbar Islands region arrives on Darwin’s shores overnight

The Top End was greeted with an earthquake overnight. Did you feel the tremor?

TERRITORIANS were shaken awake overnight after a 5.7 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia reached NT shores.

Details from Geoscience Australia show the earthquake in the Tanimbar Islands region, eastern Indonesia had an arrival time of about 2.15am, recorded by the parliament house, Mantom Dam and Darwin Rock Store stations.

Sixty-nine felt reports were made within the first 24 hours of the earthquake, 68 in the Northern Territory and one in Western Australia.

Majority of the reports were made from Darwin, ranging from a 2 to 2.9 in intensity. A report was also made in the Jabiru region and in West Arnhem.

All of the reports rated the earthquake as weak, bordering on light.
