Northern Territory young artists can access a share of $100,000 to get a start in their field of creativity.

A series of NT government funding programs is now available for applications, including the

The NXT Gen ARTS program for artists aged 18 to 25 years old.

NXT Gen ARTS grants provide up to $13,000 for young people to get a start in their industry by doing a three-month placement in an arts organisation.

Applications for the arts grants close on October 31.

Up to 10 NT artists will be given the dosh.

Isla Hooper received a NXT Gen ARTS grant in 2021.

It allowed the Alice Springs artist to spend three months at Central Craft.

Isla managed the organisation’s website, worked in the gift shop, drafted contracts and played a key role behind the scenes of The Australian Ceramics Triennale, which hosted artists from across the world.

At the end of the three months, Isla was offered a permanent job at Central Craft.

“When I put my application in (for the grant) I really didn’t think too much of it but ... the grant has completely changed the trajectory of my life,” they said.

“The grant allowed me to experience everything that came with running an arts organisation.

“I learned that I love doing arts, facilitating and running workshops and now I feel like I’m well on my way to a career that I’m so passionate about.”

Isla urged other artists to take a change on the program.

“Even if you are not 100 per cent sure, it is only three months,” they said.

“If you hate it you still get some valuable experience under the belt and if you love it well then it changes your whole life.”

Director of Arts NT, Georgia Thomas, said the program helped young people gain careers in the arts.

“This program provides a practical introduction into running an arts business by learning from established artists and sector professionals,” Ms Thomas said.

“The NT has a strong and proud tradition in the arts and this grant is about fostering our next generation to become our next arts and cultural leaders.”

Other grants programs opening in October include Creative Communities, Professional Development and Quick Response.
