A North Queensland police officer is set to appear in court in Townsville, charged with alleged misconduct and computer hacking.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Queensland Police said the 31-year-old male senior constable from the Northern Region has been stood down.

He is expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on June 2.

Allegedly committed while on duty, he has been charged with computer hacking and misuse, and misconduct in relation to public office.

Queensland Police advised their decision to inform the public was in keeping with their commitment to “high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability” when a member of the services faces serious allegations of misconduct.

“This does not mean that the allegations against the member have been substantiated,” they said in the statement.
