A leafy suburban Top End street has been blemished by a dirty, dangerous pile of rubbish – and it’s left locals fuming.

A “dangerous” and “disgusting” rubbish pile is driving one Woodroffe resident “insane”.
The concerned neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said the pile had been an ongoing issue for years.
“It’s been a problem the two years I’ve lived here,” he told this masthead.
“It’s more than disgusting; it’s dangerous.”
The neighbour said there were not enough bins on the two Woodroffe Ave properties, which led to residents deciding to “just dump rubbish in the bin areas”.
The neighbour was further concerned given the unseemly sight’s proximity to a nearby primary school.
“I would say it is now a safety issue and a health issue,” he said.
“Being across the road from the local school, I also feel it is a visual issue that is affecting the entire community.”
He said Yilli Housing, the managers of the complexes, had to educate its tenants on proper waste disposal to avoid further accumulation of rubbish.
A spokesperson for City of Palmerston confirmed the responsibility for the tidying of the bin area lay with Yilli Housing.
The spokesperson also said the complexes had been allocated their bin entitlements and the property managers could request more.
In response to the rubbish pile up, the spokesperson said health and safety concerns prohibited contractors from collecting the waste.
“Cleanaway is unable to access bin compounds that are in an unsanitary or unsafe state,” the spokesperson said.
“Once the compound has been restored to a suitable condition, regular waste collection services will resume.”
Yilli Housing did not respond to requests for comment.
