A POPULAR Cairns eatery has struck gold with their new Easter-themed treats.
Barr Street market restaurant Hopscotch is getting in the Easter spirit with hot-cross buns cooked in their wood-fired pizza oven and thickshakes served in hollow chocolate bunnies.
Owner Sam Byrd said they wanted to do something special for the restaurant’s first Easter month.
“One of the team members came up with the idea to serve thickshakes with whipped cream inside chocolate bunnies,” he said.
“It’s pretty simple, we basically just chop the ears off, pour the milkshake inside and serve with a straw.
“For the hot-cross buns, we bake them for breakfast every morning in our wood-fired oven.”
Mr Byrd said the new treats had been a massive hit.
“We typically bake around 100 buns and they’re usually all sold out by midmorning,” he said.
“The wood fire gives them a unique taste – sweet but also with a smoky flavour that permeates through the bread.
“We bake both traditional and chocolate hot-cross buns.”
The buns and bunny shakes will be on sale at Hopscotch throughout Easter.
