Virgin drops big sale on flights to Uluru

Virgin is offering discounted seats on dozens of domestic routes to a popular Aussie tourist destination, as airline price wars take a new turn.

Virgin has launched a massive sale offering discounted flights to Uluru – with fares starting from as low as $99 one way.

From Monday, Aussies have the chance to snap up economy fares from $99 one way on select flights to the UNESCO-listed World Heritage site.

Velocity Frequent Flyer members can also earn Velocity Points and Status Credits on sale fares.

Aussies can snap up a one-way ticket from Brisbane or Melbourne to Uluru for just $99, while fares from Adelaide, Hobart, Gold Coast and Sydney to the iconic red rock start from $199.

Cairns to Uluru (via Brisbane) fares start from $209, while Perth to Uluru (via Brisbane or Melbourne) cost $349.

Virgin’s new sale fares continue from now until June 4 at 11:59pm AEST (unless sold out prior), for select travel dates between July 22, 2025 and March 26, 2026.

The sale comes as the Australian Competition Consumer Commission’s recent Domestic Airline Competition report showed Qantas and Virgin Australia now control more than 98 per cent of the domestic market.

It also found the average airfare fell by 16.1 per cent in the three months to January before increasing again by 9.6 per cent by March.

“The trends observed in average airfares since January reflect seasonal factors and are broadly consistent with those observed in previous years,” ACCC commissioner Anna Brakey said. “Average airfares have come down from their peak in October 2024.”

Qantas and Jetstar carry a combined 63.9 per cent of travellers within Australia, while Virgin Australia takes 34.4 per cent, down from 35 per cent in late 2024. Rex carries 1.7 per cent of travellers.
