PUNTERS are ready to pop champagne and don their finest threads for the hotly anticipated spring racing carnival.
Thousands of Gold Coasters are expected to bolt through the gates at Aquis Park from 10am on Saturday for Derby Day, an annual race meet known for classy black and white fashion.
Racing is set to go ahead without crowds at Melbourne’s Flemington racecourse but it will be televised around the nation, along with races from the Gold Coast Turf Club.
Fashion on the Field will return to the Coast for first time since COVID-19 saw the popular competition conducted virtually.
Due to restrictions, the competition will only be held at the Moet Ice Imperial Derby Day Party.
Bachelorette star Jack Ellis will MC and stylist Kimberly Gardner and MJ Bale guest judge Frank Paino will judge entrants across the categories of Best Dressed Female, Best Dressed Male and Best Dressed Couple.
“I am keen to see the Gold Coast turn it up with their own take on Derby Day fashion,” Mr Paino said.
“This year, plain three piece suits with textured jackets and shirts is on trend for men, and I bet we will see a lot of women in puffy sleeves and full hats.”
Aquis Park CEO Steve Lines said the event would operate to a strict COVIDSafe Plan so the public can resume their social calendars and cheer from the crowd.
For those looking to try their luck away from the racetrack, the club will also be running a 50-50 Charity Raffle, with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House.
General admission tickets are available at the door for $20 or head our Facebook page from 1pm for all the action.
