Inspirational burns survivor Turia Pitt has opened up on a health scare, urging fans to “stop putting things off”.

Turia Pitt has opened up about a shock health scare, revealing she recently had a growth removed from her tongue.

The inspirational burns survivor urged fans to “stop putting things off” when it came to their health.

“I used to have this really weird growth on my tongue that I recently got cut out,” Pitt said in a video posted to Instagram.

“The hardest part of any task is … starting. Like, starting the process of getting my tongue looked at,” the 36-year-old wrote.

“I had this little bump on it for years … and I put off getting it looked at for too long.”

Pitt sustained burns when she became caught in a bushfire in 2011 while competing in an ultra-marathon in Western Australia.

Recently, Pitt also spoke about finding photos taken of her injuries two days after she was left with burns to 64 per cent of her body.

“I knew it would obviously be confronting for me,” she said on her podcast Turia Pitt is Hard Work.

“Now, do you think I stepped back, took a couple of deep breaths and thought about it a little? Or do you think I just f***ing double-clicked?”

She went on to describe the photos during her podcast, telling fans that she looked “swollen” and “half of what I used to look like, but half of what I look like now”.

Calling the photos “confronting”, Pitt went on to say that after getting very upset, she spoke to her psychologist.

“She’s amazing, she came over, we sat down and we looked at the photos together,” she said.

“It was really good that she was there with me and she was supporting me, and we talked about each of the photos and about why I found that really upsetting.”
