TICKETS to Midnight Oil’s Geelong concert go on sale to the public Wednesday.
Makarrata Live will feature the Oils collaborating with noted First Nations artists at Mount Duneed Estate on March 20 next year.
Pandemic rules permitting, a crowd of up to 10,000 is expected at what will be Geelong’s first major concert in more than a year.
The Oils, fronted by Peter Garrett, will play songs about indigenous reconciliation, land rights and the treatment of Australia’s first people.
Some of those songs will come from this year’s chart-topping album The Makarrata Project, Midnight Oil’s first new music release since they reformed in 2017.
But it’s also expected the show will feature favourite numbers from the Oils back catalogue, particularly songs — such as The Dead Heart, Beds Are Burning, and Truiganini — that address similar themes.
Mount Duneed Estate has taken crowds of up to 20,000 people for its biggest concerts, but organisers are presently planning to be at half that capacity in March.
However, they are prepared to change their plans should government rules change.
Most tickets range in price from $109 general admission to $170 for reserved seats.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday at ticketmaster.com.au at 2pm.
