Family of one of two Sydney men found dead in NSW floodwaters speaks out, GoFundMe set up

The family of one of the two men found dead after they went missing in NSW floodwaters has spoken out about the tragedy. See how you can help.

The family of one of the two men found dead after they went missing in floodwaters in the NSW Southern Tablelands has spoken out about the tragedy.

Fears had been held for friends Ghosn Ghosn and Bob Chahine since the pair were last seen riding in the back of ute that was swept away in rising waters on Monday night.

Police revealed on Thursday evening a multi-agency search, involving local police, Police Rescue, PolAir, police divers and the SES recovered one of of the men’s bodies.

After further searches, a second body was recovered at 11.15am on Sunday.

Mr Ghosn’s mother-in-law and father-in-law, Honriatt and Simon Moujalli, said their daughter has been left “broken” over the tragedy as she’s faces a future with raising her son Isaiah without a father.

“No parent should ever have to go through the torture of seeing their child left devastated after such a tragic loss,” wrote on a GoFundMe page.

“There are no words to describe the hell my daughter Sarah is living at the moment having lost her soul mate, her true love, the father of their little toddler and her whole world. My daughter’s heart is crushed.

“My gorgeous grandson keeps asking for his dad and waits for him to have breakfast with him as he always did and sing and dance together before he headed off to work.”

Mr Moujalli — who has already raised more than $21,000 to ease the financial burden for his daughter— said his son-in-law will “never see his little boy grow up” as his daughter is left “broken and a widow at such a young age”.

“I am trying to be the pillar of strength, but when I see my daughter Sarah breaking down and in so much pain it kills me,” he said.

“I feel helpless and battered. I just want to hug my daughter and tell her everything will be better.”

Mr Ghosn and his friend Mr Chahine were riding in the back of a ute that was swept off the road while being driven across a spilling causeway about 50km from Boorowa.

Two other men in the cab of the ute managed to free themselves and get to safety, before alerting authorities.

Mr Chahine and Mr Ghosn’s distraught wives, Remonda Chahine and Sarah Ghosn, called on the community to unite in prayer for their husbands this week.

“Please bring our husbands home,” Remonda Chahine pleaded on Facebook.

Family friend Melissa Lattouf wrote: “Family and friends, please pray that God sends Bob and Ghosn home safely. The power of prayer is real. Please pray with all your heart.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also expressed his concern about the two men during the week.

“Can I just express my concern at the news that authorities and volunteers are searching for two men who’ve gone missing in Boorowa,” Mr Albanese said on Wednesday.

“This is a dangerous time. These floods are having a real impact.

“We’ve already seen a loss of life on the east coast, and I just hope that we receive some positive news … in the coming hours.”
