The Gordon has joined forces with an Australian arm of a British multinational security giant.
G4S Australia has entered a three-year partnership with The Gordon to deliver correctional training to staff employed across its network of custodial services.
The Gordon recently commenced the design and development of the nationally accredited 12-month program, with delivery to commence mid-2021.
Up to 60 correctional officers will be trained by the institute annually through online tutorials, face-to-face onsite training and self-paced learning.
The specialised training is important for effectively supervising offenders, particularly at Port Phillip Prison, The Gordon said.
The training will also be delivered to correctional officers at Mt Gambier Prison, Melbourne Custody Centre and prisoner transport contracts in Victoria and South Australia.

The Gordon’s training will support the ability for G4S officers to build positive staff-prisoner relationships that will enhance the overall safety and security of the corrections system.
The Gordon’s director of education Susan Spozetta said the delivery of this specific training was new to the TAFE.
“We are excited to leverage our experience and expertise as a major regional TAFE to design, develop and deliver the Correctional training needs of G4S and Corrections Victoria,” she said.
