Larrakeyah social worker Sacha King is a shoo-in for a nomination this year after going above and beyond to help others during the pandemic.
As the co-ordinator of the Nightcliff Lion Food Van, she’s been helping deliver hot meals to people sleeping rough across Darwin.
Ms King is also the founder of a mental health charity called Two Two One.
She recently created an online video series called Surviving Iso to help young people manage their mental health in isolation during COVID-19.
“I noticed there was a gap in the support available for young Territorians, all the resources out there were very clinically focused,” she said.
“But we know that young people reach out to their peers, before anyone else to seek support for their mental health, so I knew it would be more effective to have a video series of young people talking about these issues in their own words.
“I did a series of interviews with them talking about their own mental health journeys and sharing strategies that worked for them to manage it.”
It comes after Darwin Headspace saw an increase in the severity of mental illness in youths during the coronavirus crisis.
