MEN’S PLAYERS TO WATCH
Josh Mardell (DER) – UK-born central midfielder is one of the favourites to claim the Player of the Year award. He protects his back four well, is a superb distributor and possesses a lethal reverse stick strike when afforded opportunities to get forward.
Matt Lim (NWG) – Graduates first year recruit hails from Western Australia and has lit up the Premier League competition with his ability to find small pockets of space and bring his teammates into the game with 360-degree vision and passing skills.
Alex Shaw (NWG) – A former New Zealand international, expect this big bodied defensive midfielder to relish the pressure cooker of finals hockey and look to take the game by the scruff of the neck. His incisive passing feeds his forwards plenty of attacking chances.
Angus Boulton (DER) – The competition’s leading goal scorer this season has a reputation as a renowned finals specialist. He scored the late winner in this fixture last year in torrential rain and holds a suite of important grand final goals on his record.
WOMEN’S PLAYERS TO WATCH
Merinda McMahon (NWG) – The sister of Hockeyroos star Karrie, has been a revelation this season in commanding the Graduates backline with her strong tacking and pinpoint outlet passing. Her battle with OHA’s zippy forwards will go a long way to deciding this game.
Grace Calvert (NWG) – The competition’s leading goal scorer is comfortable in either midfield or attack and this pocket rocket packs a mighty punch when given time to shoot. Will pull the trigger from any angle and take the game on at every opportunity.
Sarah McCambridge (OHA) – A former Tasmanian captain, her combination of speed and a massive aerobic engine make her a nightmare match up for any opponent. Typically gets better the longer the game wears on and a leader her teammates love to follow.
Belle Kruimink (OHA) – Faces her former clubmates for the first time in a final and will face a stern examination from Calvert and Ashleigh Arthur, but her assured tackling and sound disposal under pressure defies her tender age.
