A GROUP of South Australian walkers have been escorted from one of Tasmania’s iconic bushwalks as part of the state government’s response to the Adelaide COVID-19 outbreak.
A spokeswoman for the Parks and Wildlife Service said the walkers on the Three Capes Track had arrived in Tasmania during the period covered by the state government’s new SA border crackdown.
“PWS is working to identify and communicate with parks and reserves visitors who are currently, or about to embark, on multi-day walks who had visited South Australia since November 7 and now in Tasmania to let them know they must self-isolate,” the spokeswoman said.
“Ten guests on the Three Capes Track have been escorted from the track to begin their self-isolation or hotel accommodation, as required by the Tasmanian government.
“There are currently six known walkers on the Overland Track who have visited South Australia, who will be contacted regarding the need to self-isolate. Four of the walkers are expected to complete the Overland Track walk on Tuesday, and will be met by PWS staff, and two are expected to complete their walk on Wednesday. All six walkers have been informed that they are to use their tents, rather than shared hut accommodation and avoid use of common facilities wherever possible until the end of their walk.”
The spokeswoman said the PWS would communicate the health advice to other parks guests and visitors on multi-day walks including for the Overland Track, Frenchmans Cap, Walls of Jerusalem, and Three Capes Track and at all visitor centres around the state.
