‘Simply no more excuses’: Malcolm Turnbull and other angry Australians slam PM Scott Morrison on climate change policy

Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and other angry Australians have hit out at Scott Morrison after his ABC interview.

Australia protests to demand climate action

Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has called upon Australia to act against climate change, saying there are “simply no more excuses”.

“How much of our country has to burn, how many lives have to be lost, homes destroyed before we resolve as a nation to act on climate change?” Mr Turnbull wrote in an op-ed for The Guardian, published this morning.

“There are simply no more excuses. We cannot allow political prejudice and vested interests to hold us up any longer,” he said in the article.

“The election is won, and the fires have surely demonstrated that an integrated climate and energy policy is vital.

“The world must, and I believe will, stop burning coal if we are to avoid the worst consequences of global warming. And the sooner the better.

“But above all we have to face this fact; coal is on the way out. It is, as we are seeing today, a matter of life and death. Whether we like it or not, demand for our export coal is going to decline and expire.”

Mr Turnbull then took to social media to vent his frustrations, and he’s not the only one.

AUSTRALIA RESPONDS TO SCOMO’S ‘TRAIN WRECK’ INTERVIEW

Social media has exploded after Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s live interview on ABC insiders this morning, which was dubbed a “train wreck” by one Twitter user.

“That interview was half an hour of my life I will never get back, can get better answers from my 4 yr old grandchild,” one person tweeted.

The executive producer of ABC insiders, Samuel Clark, also wasn’t too impressed.

The federal government has announced a royal commission into the bushfires which will look at the impact of climate change, the operational response at a state and local level and the role of the federal government.

The latest plank in the federal response is a $76 million mental health plan to provide support to firefighters and residents in affected communities, but more announcements are expected in coming weeks including a royal commission and further support for small business.
