A TEENAGE terrorist attacked two police officers without warning before being shot in the head, a court has heard.
The Victorian Coroners Court has heard today that Numan Haider attacked two police officers the moment they approached him in a car park near Endeavour Hills police station last week.
The court heard the 18-year old placed his hand in his pocket as two policeman approached him.
Only minutes earlier he had contacted an Australian Federal Police agent to tell him he was parked outside a nearby childcare centre.
An officer asked him to remove his hand, which prompted Haider to attack.
The court heard a Victorian Police officer was slashed across the arm before Haider turned his attention to the AFP agent, repeatedly stabbing him in the face.
Counsel assisting the Coroner Jessica Wilby told the court Haider continued his attack on the officer as he fell to the ground, climbing on top of him and stabbing him in the face and upper body.
The injured Victorian Police officer drew his weapon and called on Haider to drop the knife before shooting him in the head.
Ms Wilby said Haider still clasped the knife in his dead hand when police rushed out of the station to help.
The court heard the AFP agent underwent surgery for multiple stab wounds.
Police have already obtained 35 statements from witnesses and expect to collect another 40 more.
Detectives continue to collect and analyse CCTV footage and are awaiting the results of drug and alcohol tests on both police officers.
Coroner John Olle earlier this week approved suppression orders banning publication of the names of the police officers and today banned publication of the names of any of Haider’s family.
The matter will return to the Coroners Court next year.
