Sex on the NT Speaker’s table

A FORMER Labor Party press secretary last night told of having sex with his girlfriend on the Speaker’s table at the Legislative Assembly

A FORMER Labor Party press secretary last night told of having sex with his girlfriend on the Speaker’s table at the Legislative Assembly.

Andrew Kilvert, 34, had finished his last day at work and had been drinking at a going-away party in the ministerial offices before the incident.

“I decided to go out with a bang,” he told the Northern Territory News last night.

Mr Kilvert and his girlfriend, identified only as Louise, had first tried the Speaker’s Italian leather and Tasmanian blackwood chair — but found it too uncomfortable.

So they moved to the Speaker’s table.

Mr Kilvert said he banged the Speaker’s wooden gavel during the romp and his girlfriend delivered an “elegant soliloquy” about freedom of choice and free speech.

The incident happened about 9pm on Friday and lasted about 30 minutes.

Mr Kilvert said Louise was on her back on the table as they made love.

He said the Assembly lights were on.

“It was my last day on the job, it was a Friday night and I wanted a bit of fun,” he said.

But now he may face charges, Speaker Loraine Braham said late last night.

Ms Braham said last night: “I am considering giving all evidence to the police and the director of public prosecutions to determine whether there is a case to be answered, eg, illegal entry.”

But Mr Kilvert said he would welcome the release of videos showing him and Louise entering the building.

“It will show us entering the Parliament and where we got in and how we accessed the Assembly and the times we were in there. It’s all there,” he said.

Chief Minister Clare Martin said yesterday there was no proof the romp ever took place.

But she said she took the matter seriously. “I don’t find this funny in the slightest,” she said. “If the incident occurred as it was reported, it brings shame on the Territory Parliament and brings deep disgrace to the person that did it.”

The CLP was also sniffy about the affair.

Opposition MLA Sue Carter said she was shocked.

Mr Kilvert’s sexploits were not the first of their kind.

The Assembly lost its virginity in the mid-1990s when a CLP politician was caught on camera having sex with a woman who was not his wife.

A senior government minder and a leading public servant were once caught having sex in a toilet at NT House.

The Northern Territory News understands Mr Kilvert was last night offered $10,000 to appear on a national current affairs program.

Mr Kilvert was at the helm of Labor’s media campaign when the first Labor Government took office last year.
