STEVEN Marshall has addressed the party faithful after the Liberals surged to victory in the 2018 SA Election, winning 24 seats — enough to form a majority government.

Mr Marshall said he was looking forward to assuming the top job after ousting a 16-year-old Labor Government. Earlier, Jay Weatherill graciously conceded defeat to the Liberals at a bouyant gathering of Labor supporters. “A few moments ago I called Steven Marshall and conceded that he’d won this State Election. “Now I’m so sorry we couldn’t bring home another one to you, but I passed to Steven Marshall my congratulations from our party on his personal achievement,” Mr Weatherill said. “Thank you so much for the extraordinary privilege of being your Premier, it’s been one of the great joys of my life and we’ll just give you one pledge - we’ll be back.” Nick Xenophon has been left deflated after the former Federal Senator, who staked his political future on the Liberal-held seat of Hartley, failed to oust the incumbent member Vincent Tarzia. Mr Xenophon said his result in Hartley was “disappointing” but hailed the likely election of two SA Best candidates in the Upper House, Connie Bonaros and Frank Pangello. “It’s a start - it means that we’ll have a presence in the South Australian parliament”. As for his own future, he ruled out a return to the Federal Parliament.
