FOR a club with more than 1000 members, the greens at the Royal Hobart Golf Club are kept immaculate according to its captain.
Veteran golfer and captain of the esteemed club and course Ian Mansfield said the atmosphere is key to being Tassie’s Best Golf Club – as well as a large member base and great food in the restaurant.
“The course is always kept in excellent condition by the greens staff, we've just upgraded as well with the start of our masterplan to redo the course,” he said.
“We’ve just upgraded the seventh and eighth tee, and that’s brought a new look to the course, in the way of a links look.”

The club has been flat chat, only seeing a small dip during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a lot of members remaining loyal, even now the borders have opened up.
“We’ve noticed a lot of our older members who usually travel north to go to the warmer states for the winter are still playing,” Mr Mansfield said.
“Our course has been hit hard with traffic – and over 600 members a week are hitting the course.”
Among other refurbishments, the club’s driving range and putting green has been renewed.
And last but not least, Mr Mansfield said the restaurant does a mean fish and chips or steak after a hard day’s golfing.
“Catering at the course, is a pub-style catering, but the girls behind the bar and in the kitchen do a wonderful job as well,” he said.
