And, the City of Greater Geelong is also chasing residents for $11.57 million in unpaid fines.

The Borough Queenscliffe, as the region’s smallest municipality, owed just $284,000 between 126 residents.

A Department of Justice and Community Safety spokesperson warned residents that fines would not just go away.

“Fines do not expire – and all fine debt will continue to be collected and enforced,” the spokesperson said.

“We encourage anyone with an outstanding fine to contact Fines Victoria as there are many flexible options available to help resolve their fine.”

The State Government isn’t the only one chasing Geelong residents for unpaid fines, with $11.57m owed to the City of Greater Geelong at the end of January.

Parking infringements account for a little more than $9m of the fines, followed by $1.66m owed for animal related infringements, $816,655 owed for fire prevention infringements, and about $17,000 owed for health and local laws infringements.
